Chapter 1

Chapter 1

“Finally.”
The day I thought would never come has arrived.
Jumbled
Ming Hu walked leisurely, taking in the scenery around him. Soon, he opened his mouth to speak with a wry smile.
“It feels completely different than yesterday. I guess moving across the country changes everything.”
It was the same street he’d walked on his way back to his unit for the war, and he couldn’t help but smile at the mysterious phenomenon of the same street feeling different.
“I thought I’d be disappointed.”
I thought I would be very disappointed if I transferred. This was because the seniors who had transferred first said so, and Myung-hoo had strongly felt that way for a few weeks before, but when I actually transferred, I realized that was not the case.
“It’s fun. Enjoy.”
It’s not that I didn’t have some regrets, but the joy of doing the whole thing far outweighed them.
“Is that it?”
Sigh
Ming Hu stopped walking and turned his head to look at the advertising screen in the distance. The screen was showing an ad for a game.
“God.”
In front of a giant five-meter statue of a goddess, a knight in full white armor stood looking at the statue with a sorrowful expression on his face.
“Forgive me…”
The knight muttered something else, raised the massive sword in his hand, and swung it at the statue.
Yikes!
The black water flowed past the statue as effortlessly as it flowed through the water. Soon, the statue cracked and began to emit light.
Bam!
Then there was a huge explosion and a burst of light.
“Yikes.”
Ming Hu marveled at the light that filled the screen. It was like a scene from a movie, but it wasn’t a movie. Ming Hu smiled at the unbelievable graphics, looked away from the screen, and muttered to himself, “It’s not a movie.
“Look, look, look, this is…”
This wasn’t the first ad I’d seen. I’ve seen the ad countless times, but every time I see it, I’m impressed. I didn’t understand how a game like that could be made.
With life-like graphics in virtual reality, human-like or better NPC artificial intelligence, and a massive story, it’s safe to say it’s the best game ever made.
“How long can I wait…. Four days.”
I was so excited. I was so excited that I was worried about how I was going to make it through the next four days until the opening.
“You’re not going to be as legendary as your ‘legend’ name, are you?”
With four days left until the opening, Myung-hoo began to pace faster in anticipation of ‘Legend’.
* * * * *
As I feared, the time flew by.
“I can’t believe it’s already open.”
Ming Hu smiled that the opening day was already here. He hadn’t expected the four days he’d been worried about how long he’d have to wait would fly by so quickly. Ming Hu stood up from his chair with a slightly excited look on his face and walked towards the capsule.
Swoosh
Arriving in front of the capsule, Ming Hu stroked it with a proud smile as he looked at the newest capsule he had bought after leaving the army.
-BeepBeepBeep!
That was the moment.
The alarm I had set for the opening time started going off.
“Done!”
Ming Hu smiled at the sound of the alarm, opened the capsule, stepped inside, and launched Legend.
[Iris is being recognized].
[Done].
[Please enter your ID].
[Please enter your password].
After authenticating himself with iris recognition, Myung-Hoo then entered his username and password.
Siaak
As I entered my username and password, the blackness around me slowly began to change.
“Ohhh…”
Ming Hu marveled at the slowly changing scenery around him.
“I can’t believe this is a real game.”
The environment around me had graphics that were so amazing that I couldn’t even recognize it as a game. The graphics were just as realistic as the commercials, and they were just as good as the real world.
Sigh
Ming Hu raised his hand and looked at it. He could see his hand as he had seen it in reality.
“Blood, flesh and blood.”
You could even see the blood. The ridiculous attention to detail that went into the flesh gave Ming Hu goosebumps.
-You don’t have a character, would you like to create one?
As Ming Hu was looking at the blood and feeling goosebumps, he heard a voice.
“Uh!”
Ming Hu, who had been staring at the bloodstains in a daze, was awakened by a young woman’s voice in his ear and opened his mouth to reply.
-Please enter a character name.
The voice then spoke, and a window appeared in front of Ming Hu.
“What should I do with…
Ming Hu looked at the window and thought for a moment.
“Should I go with an S-level ID?
Unlike other games, Legends allowed for duplicate character names, meaning that you could use your so-called S-class usernames regardless of who created them.
“No, it’s not an S-class ID.
Ming Hu shook his head.
“There’s going to be a lot of duplication…
It wasn’t a sure thing, but many users would use S-level usernames. S-level usernames are great, but Ming Hu wanted to be different.
“So what do we do?
Ming Hu began to think again about what to name his character.
“Let’s just go by name.
After some deliberation, Ming Hu decided to use his own name and typed in his character’s name.
-There are 0 users with ‘Ming Hu’ as their character name.
-Create a character with the name ‘Ming Hu’?
As I typed in my character’s name, I heard the voice again.
“Yes”
Ming Hu quickly answered the voice.
-Character created with the character name ‘Myung Hu’.
Siaak
The character was then created, and Ming Hu appeared in front of him.
“Ohhh.”
Ming Hu exclaimed once again at the mirror-image implementation.
-Do you want to change the appearance?
“It’s because of a cosmetic change.
But Ming Hu, who had no intention of changing his appearance, opened his mouth and said, “Why did you show up?
“No”
-The appearance change has been canceled. You will be taken to the country selection window.
Swoosh!
Then, the cosmetic plaque in front of me disappeared and a huge screen appeared. On the left side of the screen was a huge continent that appeared to be the world of ‘Legend’, and on the right side was a list of countries.
“Hmmm…”
Ming Hu began scanning the list of countries on the right. In the four days he had between leaving and opening, Ming Hu learned about Legends and decided on a country to start with.
“Here you go!”
Once he found the country he wanted to start with, Ming Hu quickly clicked on it, and a section of the huge continent on the left began to glow green.
“Huh? What is it?”
Ming Hu shook his head.
“You said it was the biggest?”
The green glowing area was a very small part of a huge continent. The problem was that the green glowing area was the territory of the chosen country, and the country Ming Hu had chosen was the one with the largest territory of all the countries on the continent, according to his research.
-You have selected the Empire ‘Helioca’.
-Helioca is the most powerful nation on the First Continent, with the largest territory and the most power.
Then came the voice.
“…That’s good to know. But this?”
I thought maybe the information was wrong, but it wasn’t, which made it even more puzzling. The territory of Helioca, which was supposed to be the largest on the continent, was dwarfed by the size of the entire continent.
“There are a lot of countries, but not that many…”
There were a number of countries shown on the right, but not many. Given that the selected heliocar had the largest territory, adding all the countries together would not have resulted in the size of an entire continent.
No, even if all the remaining nations had as much territory as Helioca, they wouldn’t even be able to fill 10% of the continent. So what are the remaining lands?
“Isn’t it unexplored?”
Ming Hu muttered to himself in disbelief. According to the information on the website, there were unexplored lands in the Legend, and each country was exploring them.
“No way, this large of an area?”
It was unbelievable, but otherwise inexplicable. Ming Hu looked back and forth between the green glow of Helioca’s territory and the continent, and then laughed.
“I’ll just be pioneering.”
It seemed like we were going to end up pioneering, not fighting a war.
-Start in the selected empire ‘Helioca’?
“Hmm.
Ming Hu thought for a moment when the voice asked if he wanted to start.
“But he’s the biggest and strongest.
The question didn’t last long. It was true that Helioca was the largest and strongest nation on the continent, though its territory was much smaller than I had expected.
“Yes”
-To advance to the town selection window.
After answering, a voice informed me that the town selection window would open, and the continent on the left zoomed in to show a map of the Helioca Empire. At the same time, the list of countries disappeared on the right, and a list of cities and towns appeared.
“Well…”
After deciding on a starting country of Helioca and a starting town, Ming Hu started down the list to find a town to start with.
“There it is.”
Soon, Ming Hu found the start village and quickly clicked on it.
-You have selected the town ‘Marverian’.
-The town of Marverian, home to the founding father of the Empire and the Mage of Destruction, Revel, a town that has produced many mages. It is also known as the Wizard’s Village and is a safe village with a magical circle around it that prevents monsters from entering the village.
-Would you like to start in the town of Marverian?
“Wait…
Ming Hu, who was going to start in Marverian, hesitated for a moment after hearing Marverian’s explanation. Or, more precisely, he looked at the list of towns on the right.
“Let’s look elsewhere…
I hadn’t gotten much information over the course of four days, and I chose Marverian for ease of play, but the town list had me wondering.
“Let’s take a look around.
After thinking about checking out other towns, Myung-Hoo eventually deselected the town and started exploring other towns.
-You have selected the town ‘Akram’.
-The town of Akram, a town attached to the Imperial capital of Nexus that is so developed that it could be considered a city. It has a particularly well-developed commerce and is home to one of the Seven Heroes of the Empire, the shadowy assassin Ibryn, and is said to be the headquarters of the assassins’ guild, the Dark Thorns.
-Would you like to start in the town of Akram?
