Chapter 213

Chapter 213

“Hmmm. That’s going to take a while.”
John nodded at Myung-Hoo’s words.
“How much?”
“I just need to find the information and get it… I just need to wait. Alex!”
At John’s shout, Alex, the sharp-looking man waiting outside the door, stepped inside.
“You heard him, bring it in.”
“Yes. Master.”
Once inside, Alex answered John’s question and went back outside. Meanwhile, Alex went to get the information.
“…”
“…”
There was a silence between Ming Hu and John, who had nothing to talk about. It was John who broke the silence that seemed to last until Alex’s return.
“Why are you doing research…? Can you tell me why?”
“Because someone asked me to.”
“…I see.”
John nodded in understanding at Myung-Hoo’s answer. With that, the conversation broke off again, and silence settled in.
smart
“Master, I got it.”
A few minutes later, there was a knock on the door, and Alex’s voice came in to get the information. John, who had been waiting for Alex to arrive, quickly opened his mouth.
“Come in!”
Profit
At John’s shout, the door opened and Alex entered. In his hands were a red box and a blue box, apparently containing information about Baron Magnus and Baron Devec.
“Leave it there.”
“I see.”
Once inside, Alex responded to John’s words, stepped in front of Ming Hu, set the box down, and walked back outside. As he exited, John continued.
“The red box contains Baron Magnus’s information, and the blue box contains Baron Debeck’s information.”
At John’s suggestion, Ming Hu opened the red box first. Inside was a large number of scrolls. Ming Hu took out one scroll after another and began to read.
‘The structure of the mansion, the family connections. You’ve really researched this.’
The scrolls were filled with information about the mansion’s structure, family connections, and so much more.
“Is this the end already?
Ming Hu frowned slightly when he realized there was only one scroll left. The scrolls he’d read so far hadn’t contained any negative information about corruption.
‘You can’t be serious. There’s no corruption?
There was a lot of information on the scrolls, including the structure of the manor, family connections, and relationships with other families. If the last scroll didn’t say much, there was a good chance there was no corruption.
‘Well. Not all six families are corrupt.
The purpose of this quest was to determine whether or not the nobles designated by the emperor were engaging in corruption. It was possible that all six families were corrupt, but it was also possible that all six families were not corrupt.
Sigh
Finished with his thoughts, Ming Hu picked up the last scroll and opened it.
-20 small children enter Baron Magnus’s back door. However, the children are nowhere to be found in the manor.
“…huh?
Ming Hu read the first part of the scroll and frowned at the information. It was information that made him feel very uncomfortable, corruption and all. Ming Hu frowned and continued to read down the scroll.
-The top of Almas, with Asren as its base, is rapidly growing in size, absorbing the surrounding tops. Baron Veron’s frequent visits to the upper Almas suggest some sort of trade.
-Baron Veron is frequenting Madloros, a restaurant on the outskirts of Asren. Investigation reveals that Madros is not just a restaurant, but a branch of the Thieves’ Guild Boros. What they’ve done is unknown.
“Hmmm.
After reading all the information on the scroll, Ming Hu put the scroll down and thought to himself.
“…This is going to take longer than I thought.
The last scroll was filled with negative information about Baron Magnus. Of course, not all of the information was authentic, so I would have to do some research, but it would take a very long time.
Sigh
Ming Hu turned his gaze to the blue box containing Baron Devec’s information. Originally, he had intended to check both houses’ information before making his move, but not now that he had read Baron Magnus’ information. Looking at the blue box, Ming Hu turned away and placed the scrolls on his desk back into the red box and rose from his seat.
“…?”
John stood up and looked at Ming Hu with a puzzled expression.
“I have a lot of research to do. Quite a lot. I’ll have to read Baron Debeck later.”
“…Got it.”
At her words, John glanced at the scroll with the negative information about Baron Magnus and nodded.
“I’ll be back later.”
With that, Ming Hu opened the door and stepped out.
“Are you done?”
When Ming Hu came out, Alex, who was waiting outside the door, asked, “Are you okay? Ming Hu nodded wordlessly and began to walk outside. Alex stared after him, and when he was out of sight, he turned and walked back into the room.
“Master, clean up?”
Walking into the room, Alex looked at the red box and the blue box.
“No, wait.”
John shook his head in response to Alex’s comment and rose from his seat to sit where Ming Hu had been sitting, then pulled the last scroll Ming Hu had seen from the red box containing information on Baron Magnus and began to read.
“Hmmm…”
John gulped as he read the information about Baron Magnus on the scroll. When he had read all of the information, he placed the scroll back in the box and said, “I’m afraid I’m going to have to leave.
“The Black Moon Tower… clean, right?”
“Yes, Master. I didn’t see any of them.”
“Hmmm…”
John cleared his throat at Alex’s answer, thinking.
“Yeah, I guess that’s a good idea.”
John stood up and muttered something to himself, then turned back to his seat and said to Alex, “I’m sorry.
“Go away.”
“Yes, Master.”
* * * * *
The city of Asren.
Profit
“Move carefully!”
A long procession of wagons was traveling somewhere along the road. It was impossible to tell what was in the wagons because they were covered with cloth, but the careful handling suggested that they contained something very important.
“Stop!”
The carriage procession halted at the shout of a middle-aged man at the head of the line. The caravan stopped in front of the mansion of Baron Magnus, the ruler of Asren and the surrounding villages. After stopping the carriages in front of the manor, the middle-aged man walked straight to the entrance of the manor and spoke to the soldier guarding the entrance.
“Will you tell the baron that the top lord of Alnmouth has arrived?”
“Oh, you must be Almers, wait a minute.”
At Almers’ words, the soldier opened the door and stepped inside. A moment later, the soldier returned.
Profit
“If you go in, Mr. Lascelles will be waiting for you.”
The returning soldier opened the front door and said.
“Mr. Butler?”
At the soldier’s words, Almers looked slightly surprised.
“Yes.”
The soldier who had secured the main gate to Almers’ half-gate nodded.
“I see.”
At the soldier’s nod, Almers furrowed his brow slightly, thinking to himself.
‘What’s wrong with that inspirational guy…’
Lascelles, Baron Magnus’s butler, was not a man she knew well. There was something off-putting about the fact that he was waiting for her.
“Move carefully!”
Almers led the carriage inside and approached the manor house. There stood Lascelles, Baron Magnus’s butler, who, as the soldier had said, appeared to be in his mid-sixties with graying hair.
“Stop!”
Soon arriving at Lascelles’ location, Almers stopped his carriage and approached Lascelles, giving him a fake, awkward smile.
“Master Chief, it’s been a while.”
“Heh, heh, I didn’t want to see it anymore, but here we go again.”
Lascelles smiled broadly in response to Almers’ greeting.
“What an inspiration!
Chapter rose in Almers at Lascelles’s words, but he could not hold back, for the moment he did, things would go awry.
“What can I do for you?”
“Oh, I’m here to see Baron Veron.”
Almers answered Lasell’s question, suppressing his Chapter. Lascelles smirked and continued as they approached the carriage.
“The Baron is out of town. What is this carriage?”
Soon Rachel reaches the carriage and lifts the cloth covering it. As he lifts the cloth, he reveals the jars and jewelry that were in the carriage.
“Oh, those are gifts for the Baron.”
I didn’t expect you to lift the cloth,” Almers said with a puzzled expression. At Almus’s words, Lascelles smirked again and muttered, “I’m sorry.
“A gift…”
Sigh
Muttering, Lascelles lowered the cloth again and looked at Almers.
“As I said, the Baron is out of town.”
“I’ll wait.”
“I don’t know when he’ll be back. He might not come back today.”
“He’s here by appointment, so he’ll be here later today.”
Almers smiled at Lascelles’ comment. Rashel furrowed his brow slightly at Almus’s response and continued.
“These carriages… They’re a bit intrusive.”
“It’s a gift for the Baron anyway. Tell me where it is and I’ll take it there.”
That was the moment.
Dalgadak Dalgadak
The sound of carriage wheels rolling came from behind him. Almers turned around, smiling at the bewildered expression on Rashel’s face as he looked behind him. Sure enough, a carriage was approaching from the front gate, carrying Baron Veron, the owner of the estate.
